According to Autoblog, the 2024 ARIYA mid-size crossover EV has become more appealing and competitive despite not undergoing any significant changes from the 2023 model. The key reason for this is its significantly lower cost. Nissan of Rochester further elaborates on this.

It is no secret that EV sales have softened. The sales haven’t dropped so much as the sales growth has diminished, and it comes at a time when production levels have returned to full swing. The reason for the softness in the market is understandable. Initial sales were fueled by what marketing classes call “Early Adopters.” These were people who quickly figured out that an EV would work for them and were eager to get one. Well, now most of them have one, and now is the time when EVs are in need of acceptance by the general car-buying public. Because cars are not exactly something you buy on a whim, the gap between the early adopters and the mainstream market is significantly felt.

Meanwhile, the cars are being produced and need to be sold. So, as anyone who has taken an economics class can predict, the price comes down. For the  ARIYA, the price is generally down by $6,000, though the base model’s price is “just” down by $3,600. As Autoblog notes, this puts all models except the flagship Platinum model within the $40K price range.

This is excellent news for anyone who has found that an EV fits in with how they drive. That can be anyone with living arrangements that allow them to charge at home and primarily use their vehicle for commuting and taking care of business around town. That is not to say you cannot travel in your ARIYA. The Venture Plus trim with the 87 kWh battery has an estimated range of 304 miles. Other models have a range from 205 to 289 miles. It is important not to discount those with a lower range. If you have another vehicle as your primary road trip vehicle and the ARIYA is primarily for commuting and covering relatively local errands, are the extra miles necessary? Or as Autoblog puts it: “..if you’re just looking for an EV as a city car, why pay for range you don’t need?”

Meanwhile, the ARIYA remains a compelling vehicle in its own right, with a handsome exterior and a very impressive and attractive interior. Again, Autoblog puts it better: “The cabin really is special in terms of appearance, materials, and functionality – that’s even the case with lower trim levels. The difference between the ARIYA and a VW ID.4, Honda Prologue or Tesla Model Y really is stark.”
