Car and Driver Editor's Choice

Car and Driver has issued their Editor’s Choice List awards for the 2024 model year. Nissan of Rochester is happy to announce that the Nissan Versa was selected among its winners. Since its design refresh for 2023, the Versa has been chosen for this award for two consecutive years.

While many other automotive magazine awards only select among new or redesigned models, candidates for the Editor’s Choice List can be any model sold in the US. Thus, the winners are chosen from over 500 models representing 36 categories. The publication ranked Versa No. 1 in the “Best Subcompact Cars” category.

Car and Driver drives, tests, and compares models throughout the calendar year. Their  criteria in determining the vehicles selected for the Editor’s Choice list include:

  • Results from Car and Driver’s industry-leading rigorous instrumented testing
  • Editors’ subjective evaluations of each vehicle:
    • Performance
    • How well a vehicle fulfills its intended mission
    • The ranking each vehicle earns within its market segment versus its competitors.

The publication added this statement about the awards: “The vehicles on this list have the equivalent of the highest grade-point averages, and they comprise approximately the top quarter of the market. These are the ones we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to our friends, families, and you. We’ve bought more than a few of these vehicles ourselves.”

In a market where the average price for a new car is over $44,000, the Versa stands out for its value even within its sub-compact category. Starting at $16,390, it offers the lowest MSRP of any car in the U.S.  It can also claim to be the most tech-advanced vehicle in its class with the most standard safety technology. And, of course, it is quite efficient with up to 40 mpg highway for Xtronic models without any need for electrification.

Car and Driver had these things to say about the Versa in its Editor’s Choice Report:

  • “Frugal at the fuel pump, surprisingly refined ride, one of the most affordable sedans out there.”
  • “The Versa is the definition of cheap and cheerful, and in the world of good small cars, it’s virtually the last one standing.”
