Japan Reveals Aryia NISMO Models
At the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, Nissan revealed two NISMO versions of the Aryia EV SUV. In Nissan’s words: “NISMO is the embodiment of ultimate Nissan performance, inspired by the most unforgiving proving ground – the race track.” While this model has not been confirmed for the U.S. market, Nissan of Rochester would certainly welcome their addition.
The Ariya Nismo uses as its base the e-4ORCE mode. This mode features all-wheel drive thanks to motors between the front and rear axles, ensuring the additional power will get to the ground effectively. Two models are planned, one being the Nismo B6 and the other being the Nismo B9. The numbers refer to the size of the battery packs, with the B6 featuring a 66-kWh battery and the B9 receiving an almost 50% larger 91-kWh unit.
Powerful Motors back by Chassis Tuning
The power of the motors in the Nismo B6 combines for a total of 362 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. The B9 bumps this up to 429 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Those figures have yet to be officially approved, so they may be adjusted before the models are available for sale in the Japanese market. Nissan also states that it has adjusted the power delivery for improved acceleration. The models feature an added Nismo driving mode, which tightens things up for a quicker response.
Tuning is still being finalized, so no performance figures are available. A current Ariya e-4ORCE Platinum+ has a 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds, which certainly is not slow, but the NISMO models can be expected to improve that time. The increased power is accompanied by sport chassis tuning and 20-inch, low-profile tires bespoke to the model.
Interior Communicates Performance
The performance theme spreads to the interior through more highly bolstered bucket seats and red accents on the dash, door panels, and center console. Simply for fun, there is an option that adds sounds from Nissan’s experience in Formula E racing. The new NISMO models will be the flagship of the Aryia model line and are expected to be available for sale in Japan this spring of 2024. Nissan has not divulged whether it plans to bring one or both NISMO models to the United States.
In the meantime, the Ariya is already one of the most impressive EVs on the market. Nissan of Rochester invites you to check out the model in person and see how well this roomy and versatile EV crossover could fit into your life.
